If you dominate the process, the result will take care of itself.
Some sports such as baseball are very technical. They require you to understand your process in detail. How is your swing? How is your throwing motion? How are your mechanics while running the bases? They force you to slow the game down and ask why and how can you get better to get the edge and top the previous performance. Within the process, there are things that you can control.
“There may be people that have more talent than you, but there is no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do!” - Derek Jeter
Fall in love with your process and things you can control.
Get Better every single day!
Being locked in on your process is key in sports. It allows you to hone in on improving your skills while not comparing yourself to others. You are realizing what you did wrong and strictly focused on correcting that, while realizing what you did right and focusing on how you can repeat the process or how you can improve your process to be better at what you did right. Some athletes have to "fall in love"with the process in order to stay consistent, while others tell themselves that they don't have to like the process, they just have to crave the end result so bad that the work becomes irrelevant.
In sports, the intangibles are things that you can always control. Your effort, attitude, hustle, mindset are just a few things that you will always have control over and therefore you will be competing against yourself to see how you can be better at them than yesterday.
